Alexandre Lacazette appreciated it and if his shot had ended in a goal, Rob Holding would have had assist of the season wrapped up on day one.
Granted, such an award does not exist, but Gooners were clearly left impressed by Holding’s football.
Holding off the threat of Fulham’s Aboubakar Kamara, the centre-back juggled the ball on his knee before playing in his teammate, who ended up winning a corner just after half-time.
Lacazette scored the opener and applauded Holding and could not contain the smile and burst of laughter that followed.
Fans even think they witnessed him channel his inner Ronaldinho, considered one of the most skilful players to have played in recent years.
And Arsenal ended up scoring from the corner, with Gabriel heading into the back of the net.
Holding wasn’t even expected to start the season opener, which Arsenal won comfortably, but an injury to David Luiz put him in contention and he partnered new signing Gabriel at the back.
The 24-year-old Holding has been at Arsenal since 2016 and appeared set to join Newcastle in the current transfer window but Mikel Arteta decided to keep him.
“I told him ‘change your mind, you’re not going anywhere,’ the manager said after the 3-0 win over Fulham.
“He stands for exactly every value we want at this football club.”
