Arsenal star Bukayo Saka reveals he gave Rob Holding a big hug after the defender’s performance against Crystal Palace.

Saka was the star of the show in the 4-1 victory on Sunday, bagging two goals and an assist.

But while the England forward has shone for the Gunners all season, Holding was making his first Premier League appearance of the campaign.

With William Saliba and Takehiro Tomiyasu injured, manager Mikel Arteta called upon Holding – and the 27-year-old did not disappoint.

Holding was faultless as Arsenal went eight points clear at the top of the table, having played a game more than second-place Manchester City.

When asked about the centre-back’s performance, Saka told the Arsenal website: “I gave him a big hug when he came into the changing room because he deserves it.

“He was magnificent. We need that, you know, when he’s coming in to stay at the level that we’ve been playing.

“He was unbelievable today, so credit to him.”

Saka now has 12 goals and 10 assists this season, becoming the first player to reach double-figures in both categories.

But the 21-year-old insists he is more interested in the team as a whole.

“I’m just happy to help my team,” Saka added.

“Each game I want to go into the games and try and affect them in the best way to help my team win, whether that’s scoring or assisting.

“I managed to do that today and help us win the game, so I’m happy again.”
